Visit to Primary School Leona Štuklja Maribor!!

TRAINING ACTIVITY IN MARIBOR, SLOVENIA 11th March 2022

During the Training Activity carried out in Maribor, we had the opportunity to visit the Primary School Leona Štukja Maribor. In this visit, we could see how an educational center works in Slovenia. By this way, we could learn a lot of new and different ways of teaching/learning and different methodological aspects that the teachers will be able to use or implement in their educational centers and also share this knowledge with their partners in their own country. It was a very nice experience in which we could share a lot of different opinions and points of view and also opened our minds about how to organize an educational center.

During the visit, we could see a lot of different parts of the school. We started visiting the teachers’ room in which the director of the center welcomed us and explained some general aspects of the center’s functioning. After that, we visited the gym where we could see the large number of resources dedicated to such an important aspect of education. We also played a little bit of basketball!

Then we visited the classes, the dining room, the library… All of us were very Impressed by how beautiful the school was. The walls of the corridors were full of decorations and artwork made by the students! There was also a portrait of Leon Štukelj, a famous Slovenian gymnast that gives the name to the school. Here you can see some pictures of all these beautiful places.

At the end, we went to a classroom and there an art teacher talked to us about some interesting aspects of her class: the different subjects that she works with the students, the contents and the activities that she does in the classes, the organization of the year… We could learn a lot of interesting things thanks to this presentation. After that, EPEKA (the host organization) and Polona (one of the teachers of the school that was taking part in the training activity) gave us a surprise!! They had organized an activity in which we could make Slovenian traditional artwork!!

It was a very good time for all of us. Here you can see the results!!

In brief, we all had a very good time visiting the school and learnt a lot of interesting and useful things, sharing ideas, opinions, and knowledge between all the members of the group. We would like to thank EPEKA for the organization of the visit and obviously to Primary School Leona Štuklja for opening their doors and allowing us to have such a great time and learn so many things.

In the next months the teacher will implement in their schools the ArtEphemeral education projects in the School Activity Event and we will have the 4th Transnational Video Conference Meeting in which we are going to talk about the next steps of the project so…

STAY TUNED!!

ARTWORK FOR TEACHERS!!

TRAINING ACTIVITY IN MARIBOR, SLOVENIA 12th March 2022

This activity was developed on the 3rd day of the Training Activity (C1) carried out in Maribor. This activity had two principal objectives:

  • Develop the skills of the teachers related to ephemeral art.
  • Show an example of how to work different contents and the 8 key competences through ephemeral art as a methodological tool.

In this activity, the teachers (working in groups) had to make a scale recreation of the ancient Alexandria lighthouse. Starting from a text, they had to create a model of the lighthouse. The text was a poetic text that wanted to imitate the diary of a traveller arriving in Alexandria and seeing the lighthouse for the first time. With this text as the starting point, they had to design a 3D model of Alexandria lighthouse in TinkerCad.

When they finished the model, they had to make a real scale recreation of the Alexandria lighthouse. They had to use ephemeral materials for this artwork provided by the organization such as cardboard, paper, wooden sticks, plasticine, coloured paper, etc. In addition, they had to add a technological element (drawbridge, sliding doors, pulleys…) and a real light in the top of the building!

When they finished their works, they presented their creation to a jury explaining the process of creation and the difficulties they’d found and the jury decided what creation is the tallest, the most beautiful, the most creative and the most technological.

This is an example of how to work on the contents of different subjects (such as History, Mathematics, Language and Literature, Technology, Art, Informatic…) and also the 8 key competences: Linguistic communication (they had to communicate their ideas with their partners), Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology (they had to calculate measures, forces, use different materials…), Digital competence (they had to use TinkerCad to do the model), Learning to learn (explaining their difficulties during the process), Social and civic competences (working in groups), Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship (they had to solve problems, find solutions), Cultural awareness and expressions (they increased the value they attributed to the 7 wonders of the ancient world).

This was the text in which they had to based their artworks:

“Walking through unknown lands I came across an imposing building. It was slender, very tall, almost touching the sky and a light shone from the top.

It was protected by sturdy walls that prevented enemies from entering and the only access gate was guarded by guards.

The building was on an island, accessible only by crossing a long bridge that connected it to the mainland.

I was surprised by the technology of that bridge: it was able to disappear to leave the island incommunicado whenever the inhabitants wanted, making the only way to access it by sea.

There were boats in the water, they seemed to be guarding the island from the dreaded pirates as well.

I had the feeling that there was something important there that they wanted to protect. Something sacred. Very valuable”

The results were very nice!! Here you can see the creations of the different work teams and the presentation of the groups!

TRAINING ACTIVITY (C1) FOR TEACHERS IN MARIBOR, SLOVENIA!

The Training Activity (C1) for teachers of “ARTephemeral in School Education” was held from 9th to 12th March 2022 in Maribor, Slovenia!!

The meeting was developed in EPEKA Association with the assistance of AIDEJOVEN, CEIP Seis de Diciembre, ANKARA AILE, LKL Associazione, Polo Liceale Statale «R. Mattioli» and EPEKA as Host Organization.

The aim of this activity was to provide teachers with the tools and knowledge necessary to apply ephemeral art as a methodological tool in school education. Moreover, thanks to this activity they will be able to develop ephemeral art projects in their schools, which is the second part of the implementation of this project.

During the first day, the training activity agenda was organised as follows:

  1. Presentation of the day and the agenda
  2. Overview of the «ARTephemeral in School Education» project
  3. Description of the Methodological Guide
    • Objectives
    • Technical specifications
    • Parameters to be met
  1. Ephemeral Art as a tool to apply in school to develop the 8 Key Competences for Lifelong Learning:
    • Which are the 8 Key Competences for Lifelong Learning?
    • Examples of the application of Ephemeral Art.
    • Brainstorming, the share of opinions.

It was a very productive day in which we could share a lot of knowledge from the different participants. There were teachers from very different subjects such as: arts, mathematics, informatic, physical education, language and literature… All of them could share with the other their own point of view and could learn a lot of methodological aspects and tools to apply the ephemeral art as a tool of teaching/learning in their classes.

During the second day, the training activity agenda was organised as follows:

  1. The teaching of the use technological tools:
    • Design software (CANVA)
    • 3D Modeling (TINKERCAD)
    • Other technological tools
  1. Exploring Maribor

This second day allowed us to learn more about technological tools related to ephemeral art. Thanks to specialists that EPEKA invited to the Training Activity, we could learn a lot of things about digital design in Canva and ·3D modelling in TinkerCad, so that the teachers will be able to apply all this knowledge in their classes in order to teach the different contents of their specialities and also develop the ArtEphemeral projects and Local Events in their educational centres. In the evening we visited the centre of Maribor and had dinner all together.

During the third day, the training activity agenda was organised as follows:

  1. Teamwork on how to apply the ArtEphemeral Guide in the classroom:
    • The representatives of each educational centre will draw up a project which includes Ephemeral Art to be developed in their own educational centre. Practical activity.
  1. SCHOOL VISIT.
  2. Advice and feedback.

This day the teachers designed a practical activity in order to apply the knowledge they had acquired the other two days to their own speciality and contents. After that, they explain to the others their activity with the objective to share the different ideas and also exchange opinions and advice. Later, we visited a school in Maribor where we could see how they work there and also we had the opportunity to make traditional artwork! All of us were excited with this visit and the traditional activity organised by EPEKA!

During the fourth day, the training activity agenda was organised as follows:

  1. Example of an activity for teachers on how to apply the ArtEphemeral Guide in the classroom.
  2. Sharing the projects ideas developed by the Teachers:
    • Presentation of the projects: achievements, difficulties, doubts.
    • Evaluation of the tools and methodology.
  1.  Summary and an evaluation of the training activity.

That day, the teachers had the opportunity to participate in an activity for teachers that is an example of how to apply the methodological aspects of the ArtEphemeral to different contents from different specialties. The activity was related to the 8 Key Competences and allows the teachers to work on contents from different specialities. In this activity they had to make a scale recreation of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria!!

This training activity (C1) was a very good time for all of us in which we had the opportunity to talk about a lot of different topics and share a lot of different opinions. In addition, the experts in the different areas could teach us a lot of very interesting things about ArtEphemeral and its application as a methodological tool in School Education.

In a few days we will show you all the artworks made by the teachers in the training activity!!
